September CD Release

Super Teens and Marshmallow Dreams

September takes a little turn from August with less funk and more rock. The compilation is dominated by artists that have flavors of the Black Keys, the Flaming Lips, Ben Kweller, Save Ferris, and Ani DiFranco... wait, that's actually her. This CD definitely gives full value to the dollar with all the songs averaging at about 4 minutes and leaving only a few minutes to spare to the disk.

The CD starts out with a rather unusual beginning song for ChipperDemon and then slips in and out of indie rock tracks and kind of lacks the build up that usually occurs at the beginning and instead goes from a constant middle ground beat pace to slowing down in the middle completely changing the feel till it returns again. The CD does run the risk of sounding a little monotonous with all of the indie rock tracks. The bonus tracks are the most fast paced songs and perhaps the best songs on the entire CD... too bad you can't vote for them.

Tracks As Follows:

1. Act, Wait, Activate - Holana (lyrics
A Swedish band self proclaimed as "sweeter than honey pie" on their myspace page, Holana, is definitely sweet. Their song Mr. Dancy Pants is probably their best track on the internet. Music blogger Absolute Noise best compared them to the Moldy Peaches to try and explain their simplistic style. Similar to Moldy Peaches, boy and girl duets, even if it's two boys, do have a sweet uniqueness to them that ChipperDemon's friend at OrangeCoat is rightfully growing a love for.

2. Mexico - Beat Radio (lyrics
The first of Beat Radio's appearances on the CD, Mexico, is a good introduction to the band's instrumental ability. The beginning of the song (deceptively reminiscent of the Counting Crows) brings it right to an image with a simple message, "This morning I woke up, I had a melody in mind. I felt like I should sing it but I wouldn't call it mine. Then I make you coffee, then I make you plans, then the song slips away like water in my hands." The song gives an overall warmth over the complexities of dreams and music.

3. Party's Over - Nicole Atkins & the Sea (lyrics
This Jersey native, Nicole Atkins, developed her sound working with one of ChipperDemon's favorite artists, Fiery Furnaces (Best of the Rest 07) and then producing albums with the Franz Ferdinand producer. The song has a very familiar pop sound. The heavy bass guitar providing the slow melody is paired with the faster paced lead guitar guiding the verses right where they need to be. It fits a successful song formula all the way through intro, verse, bridge and chorus.

4. World of Machines - Mock Orange (lyrics
The stronger of the two Mock Orange tracks, World of Machines, is the most reminiscent of the Flaming Lips with the music style and story telling approach especially by revolving around robotic vision. The electric guitar also adds this light funkiness between verses. "I used to be a little bit brighter in the morning until I got tired. That's how it started and now I'm here and I'm gone." Sometimes simple lyrics about robots are just nice.

5. The Geeks Were Right - The Faint (lyrics
While the Faint's new album would have fit quite nicely with last month's collection, it also provides the little bit of contrast that September experiences. This song, however, follows the World of Machines perfectly with "watch what the humans ruined with machines." The Faint proves their amazing lyric style with lines like, "I'm in a chainsaw choir." The song is a very typical Faint song informing all that the years of absence from the recording studio has not phased their music approach. The Faint, you have been missed.

6. Waiting for a Crisis - The Fourelles (lyrics
The Fourelles have a very typical girl indie rock band sound already making them a ChipperDemon favorite. The band is made up of two girls (one from Virginia the other from Massachusetts) and two guys (one from Australia and the other from Texas). Their lyrics and song style are very similar to Rachel Jacobs with embarrassingly true lyrics and simple guitar riffs. Then, the chorus is incredibly catchy, "I'm waiting for a crisis so I can show you how nice I can be" will stick in the head and not leave.

7. The Gentle Charm of the Soviette - The Henry Clay People (lyrics
One of the two Henry Clay People songs, The Gentle Charm of the Soviette, is a familiar indie beat with a voice similar to Bishop Allen (July 07 CD) and Ben Kweller. The song, however, with a message about a soviette is perhaps the most similar to songs by the Cold War Kids (July 07 and November 07 CDs). Overall, typical indie band that gets the formula right.

8. Lord - Sleepy Sun (lyics
Aside from having a band name that would be good inspiration for a ChipperDemon CD cover, Sleepy Sun is a blues/jam band band from California. Their new album, Embrace, is available to download completely free from their website, and is worth the extra click. Their blues and funk style is smooth and great wind down music. Now as for the song, it's the longest on the CD and shows it. The song sets up to be fantastic but drags just a little.

9. Come Save Us - The Warlocks (lyrics
Similar to Sleepy Sun in that Come Save Us has a fantastic start but ends up dissapointing just a little. The song isn't too long by any means, the chorus just repeats a few too many times. The seven piece unit that is The Warlocks comprises is obviously a family of talent and sure to make it somewhere, starting with a fairly well done website.

10. Extinction - The Muslims (lyrics)
The rawness of the this guitar heavy, vocal led song does have a nice simpleness to it that also brings the CD back to more of a rock base. Music reviewer Stereogum gives the band a thumbs up with stating them as a band to be on the lookout for. They just have a nice and simple way about them, song message and all.

11. Marathon Not a Sprint - Camera Obscura (lyrics
A female track, Marathon Not a Sprint, starts off with a harmonica heavy introduction into a pleasant lady voice. The song is lovely and simple, "who do I love the most?" The band, Camera Obscura, starting in 1996 is Scottish based with three albums under their belts.

12. Star Matter - Ani DiFranco (lyrics
Star Matter is a typical guitar, cello, and trumpet trio under Ani DiFranco's infamous voice. The song, as expected, is lyrically heavy but surprisingly very simple. It contrasts with a good deal of the songs on the CD with it's instrumental style. The song, of course, had to appear on a ChipperDemon CD out of respect for Ani's relentless years of achievement. "Love ain't far behind." Also, her entire new album, Red Letter Year, is fully listenable off of her label's website, Righteous Babe

13. Death - White Lies (lyrics
Between the song title and band name the track does not let up for a bright song and a repeated message of, "this fear has got a hold on me" doesn't really try dispel the assumption. The song, however, has this overall upbeat sound while the lyrics are a little conflicted pronouncing, "I live of the right side, I sleep on the left, that's why everything has got to be love or death." The music build up, though, makes one completely forget the message behind the lyrics and let the drum beat keep the excitement.

14. Golden - Bear Hands (lyrics
A now two year old band, Bear Hands, has obviously been working hard. The song has a great simple guitar riff over a steady and sweet drum beat. The lead singer's voice is typical for an indie band a little screamy but it flows so easily over the simple music. The lyrics are little random, "brown bunny the murder cereal" but the ending crescendo ties the whole song together just before it returns to the simple sound and finishes.

15. January - The Swear (lyrics
The Swear is a very Save Ferris girl indie rock band. They've got the catchy chorus, even if it is, "I don't believe in suicide." The band, however, is very emo looking based on their banner photo of the website, which explains the chorus line.

16. Bandage on the Blood Clot - The Henry Clay People (lyrics
A little slower than their previous song on the compilation, Bandage on the Blood Clot, continues the indie sound of the CD. Their drum build up is nice to tap to against a good hard surface right up until it lets go and the head bobs right into it. It is probably the most overkill song of the indie sound on the CD though.

17. Another Loveless Anthem - Beat Radio (lyrics
The last Beat Radio song on the CD, Another Loveless Anthem, is a great long yet not song. It has a simple and sweet sound that is quite common among this entire CD. The instrumental complexity of it carries it through and captivates interest. The lyrics as well keep attention, "I'm another loveless anthem playing on your top 40 station."

18. Supergang - Mock Orange (lyrics)
Because ChipperDemon can't finish a compilation on a slow note, again, Mock Orange finishes the CD up with a nice steady head bobbing track. "It's a miracle, musical, lyrical... we've got time to swim forever." They again have a bit of Flaming Lips sound and somehow maintain energy while keeping a steady pace. A good finish to a good CD compilation.

Bonus Tracks
Trunk Fulla Amps - Self
Super Freak - Fetchin' Bones

ChipperDemon would also like to apologize for not all of the songs being available at Amazon for previewing.

Break the way and let those
Those preconceptions reach the ground
Don’t be like us
We are artifacts created

Make revolutions break the line

Mexico - Beat Radio (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Mexico" by Beat Radio
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

This morning, I woke up
I had a melody in mind
I felt like I should sing it
But I wouldn’t call it mine
Then I’ll make you coffee
Then I’ll make you plans
Then the song slips away like water through my hands

The last thing I remember is the silence taking hold
I’m in and out of dreams
I’m spinning way out of control
You gave me something beautiful
You gave me something true
I’d try to make it mine
But somehow I’m just not getting through

Dreams are just like melodies
Delicate simplicities
Fill them up with words
Drown them with philosophy
The dream I had was beautiful
I let it get away from me
I let it get away from me

I used to have designs
To make the whole world know my name
It’s too close to the heat
I watched it all go up in flames
You gave me something beautiful
You gave me something true
I’ll find a way to complicate it like I always do
Remember what I said
While we were down in Mexico
This dream we share is real
And we can never let it go

I know I’m getting older
I’m feeling like a ghost
The way I feel right now
I know I must be getting close
I must be getting close

Dreams are just like melodies
Delicate simplicities
Fill them up with words
Drown them with philosophy
The dream I had was beautiful
But I let it get away from me

I’m not the kind of man
To let it go so easily

Party's Over - Nicole Atkins and the Sea (Lyrics)

Darlin’
Why you look so sad
Has this place got you anxious
Trust me it’s not you
I’ve been wondering for days
How to make them go away
There’s just one thing left to do

Let’s go go go
Before an over reaction
Gets us in trouble
(unknown lyric)
Darlin’ stay close to me
And I won’t won’t won’t
Ever let them hurt you
Ever again
(unknown lyric)
Oh it’s just a dream

There’s not enough to make me weep
And the company you keep
They don’t seem to have a plan
Darlin’ it is almost morning
This is our last warning
Let’s get out while we can

Let’s go go go
Before an over reaction
Gets us in trouble

(unknown lyric)
Darlin’ stay close to me
And I won’t won’t won’t
Ever let them hurt you
Ever again
(unknown lyric)
Oh it’s just a dream

Party’s over now
Party’s over

So let’s go go go
Before an over reaction
Get’s us in trouble
(unknown lyric)
Darlin’ stay close to me
And I won’t won’t won’t
Ever let them hurt you
Never again
(unknown lyric)
Oh it’s just a dream

World of Machines - Mock Orange (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "World of Machines" by Mock Orange
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

I used to be a little bit brighter
In the morning until I got older
Set the alarm
Kept breaking my arms
And the bed kept moving further away
I started seeing a world of Machines
Everybody grab a hold
And parade around in your car
Should we buy the house or the car
Let’s by the car
Won’t get too far

I’m on the plane back
To the beginning of the end
It’s not about what you need to know
You’ve got to think and remember what you already know

Sometimes I can’t decide what things I like
Sometimes I can’t help but be less a person
It’s what I know
Since I’ve already started
I’ll go, I’ll go, I’ll go with it
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!

I used to be a little bit brighter
In the morning
Until I got tired
That’s how it started
And now I am here and I am gone
Ohhh

Everybody’s seen it
Everybody’s seen it
And they know
It’s not hard to believe in
If you think that it’s real
You should that it’s for real
If you think that it’s real
You should that it’s for real
If you think that

The Geeks Were Right - The Faint (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "The Geeks Were Right" by The Faint

Eyeballs float in wet green grass
I got a chainsaw motor thats filled with rain...proof
when it sings like bach with eyes all bulging
when the pink sun drops the eyelids fold
while I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones
I take a freight elevator and press fast forward
I get to grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that WILD

When I saw the future the Geeks were right

Egghead boys with thin white legs
they got modified features with software brains
but thats what the girls like, the geeks were right

When I saw the future the Geeks were right

Predator skills, chemical wars, plastic islands at sea
watch what the humans ruin with machines

Eyeballs float in wet green grass
I'm in a chainsaw choir and dreams that bend that let me cut through time and stretch out bach
I make the dry eyes roll and wet eyes cross
while I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones I take the freight elevator and press fast forward
so i can grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that wild

When I saw the future the Geeks were right

Waiting for a Crisis - The Fourelles (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Waiting for a Crisis" by The Fourelles
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

I opened all your mail
To show you that I care
I want to be in your life
When you’re dealing with something tough
Because I’m waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be
I’m waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be

Maybe some kind of injury
So I can bring you ice cream
Maybe some sort of illness
So I can give you a kidney
I’m waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be
Waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be

I hope you lose everything
Lose everything
So I can be the one you need
I hope you lose everything
Lose everything
So I can be the one you need

Maybe the death of a pet
My empathy will leave you impressed
Maybe a death in the family
I’ll hold your hand during the eulogy
I’m waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be
I’m waiting for a crisis
So I can show you how nice I can be

The Gentle Charm of the Soviette - The Henry Clay People (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "The Gentle Charm of the Soviette" by The Henry Clay People
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

And we were licking the spit off the dinner plates
While the chill (unknown lyric) chewing through their cage
And we were hoping for some miracle absurdity change
Like the dark (unknown lyric) of everything

You slipped away for a cigarette
We’ll pack our bags and we’ll head out west
We’ll tell my second wife about a Russian threat
She was the love of my long life
I held her hand and watched her die
In her sleep
The gentle charm of the soviette
Held out her arms and let me in
And we were searching for solutions half the time
The other half was keeping us alive
And if you should have only to survive
Oh we can tell my story to a child
Well you see
I never felt the need to breed
One million orphan mouths to feed
What a waste of a legacy
What wasted legacy
On every dirty city street
Where the (unknown lyric) to speak
Some day some manically trained youth
Will carve out our hearts to find some truth
Until then I’m not sure what to do
Until then

He don’t sleep and he’s asking of (unknown lyric) glass
Shattered soul of the working class
But (unknown lyrics)

Lord - Sleepy Sun (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Lord" by Sleepy Sun

Oh lord
I'll give up in time
When all falls in between the lines
Oh soul, we'll fall down to together
and retire with the changing weather
Oh lord, I've been left unnoticed
I set sail all without a ship
Oh soul, we're in this hall together
We're searching underneath our shelter.

I'm alone. Lift me from my humble home
Beauty calls. Pull me from familiar walls

Oh lord, I believe in heaven
But a sinner told me im a dead man
Oh soul, all I want is freedom
But I'm told materials bleed wisdom
Oh lord, show me sign of power
Rid thy world of all the cowards
Oh soul, we'll find our own savior
Deep down in the coldest winter

I'm alone. Lift me from my humble home
Beauty calls. Pull me from familiar walls

*ChipperDemon would like to especially thank Sleepy Sun for providing us with the lyrics to their song.

Come Save Us - The Warlocks (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Come Save Us" by The Warlocks
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

Scratching on the wall ahead
The trappers been rigging the set
It’s time to bring back all your heroes
Shelter us in all its glory too
Oh come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves

It seems as though we’re trying to find
These things just just just to make us feel
But I only wish I had an hour
And stop the memories ahead
And we looking at our highs and lows
When you’re losing you’ve got to look
Oh come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves
Come save us from ourselves

Extinction - The Muslims (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Extinction" by The Muslims
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

If you give me a gun
I’ll point at you
If you think that I’m the one
That has to answer to you
‘Cause I’ve got news for you
Yes, I’ve got news for you
I don’t owe anything to you
I don’t owe anything to you

You waste all your time
In front of a mirror
So I’ll waste my time
Trying to make it clear
‘Cause I’ve got news for you
Yes, I’ve got news for you
I don’t want anything from you
I don’t want anything from you
This is extinction
For you

You are the kind of person
You think that you’re better than everyone
You’re the kind of person
You think you’re better than me
Well, I’ve got news for you
Yes, I’ve got news for you
I don’t need anything from you
I don’t need anything from you
This is extinction
For you

Marathon Not a Sprint - Camera Obscura (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Marathone Not a Sprint" by Camera Obscura

Honey you were good for me but I can’t deny my need to be free grows
I resigned myself to climb the stairs to your
winning thighs and endless prayers alone
My new-found confidence you hate, everything put down to fate
Nothing less or more
It’s a marathon and not a sprint
That’s what we said before we quit
Love should grow
Should boast

I feel I’m doing time
With someone not on my side
A mystery divide
Brings me close
To who I love the most

A friend from the capital came to visit
Will she comfort me or does she want to gossip
Who knows?
I’ll take these worries to the park
I won’t come home until after dark
Noone will know except you of course
I’ll go swimming and ride a bike
Maybe turn into someone that you’d like
It’s a marathon and not a sprint
That’s what we said before we quit
Love should grow.
Should boast

Star Matter - Ani DiFranco (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Star Matter" by Ani DiFranco

Love gets started
Next thing you know
It leaves everything else behind
Love sets fire to your schedule
and then calls an end to time

Love ain't far behind you
Love ain't far behind
and when we're parted it's always too long
and every time you come back
You come back so strong
and as soon as we can
We gotta go lie down
In that place where our breath is one sound

Love ain't far behind you
Love ain't far behind

I was there to hear your bell the first time
It rang and the beauty was
The beauty of everything
We are star matter from the big bang

Love ain't far behind you
Love ain't far behind
Love ain't far behind you
Love ain't far behind

Death - White Lies (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Death" by White Lies

I love the feeling when we lift up
watching the world so small below
I love the dreaming when I think of
the safety in the clouds out my window
I wonder what keeps us so high up
could there be a love beneath these wings
if we suddenly fall should I scream out
or keep very quiet and cling to my mouth as I’m crying
so frightened of dying
relax yes I’m trying
this fears got a hold on me

yes, this fears got a hold on me

I love the quite of the night time
when the sun in the deathly sea
I can feel my heart beating as I speed from
then sense of time catching up with me
the sky set out like a pathway
but who decides which path we take
as people drift into a dream world
I close my eyes as my hands shake and when I see a new day
who’s driving this anyway
I picture my own grave
cause fears got a hold on me

yes this fears got a hold on me

Floating neither up or down I wonder when I’ll hit the ground
well the earth beneath my body shake
and cast your sleeping hearts awake
could it tremble stars from moon light skies
could it drag a tear from your cold eyes
I live on the right side I sleep in the left
that’s why everything’s got to be love or death

yes this fears got a hold on me

Golden - Bear Hands (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Golden" by Bear Hands

In trouble it's so severe
it's a harmless struggle exhausted year
Hot bubble come bursting out
somber son with his stitched up mouth
Smoke skeleton police the state
absolve all of our past mistakes

All over the tri-state area
it's sick money it's crime in stereo
Brown bunny the murder serial
tan honey the price of marigolds
Smoke skeleton police the state
absolve all of our past mistakes

The literary return of the rat
a sedentary disturbance in black
Giant Jonah swallows a whale
and spends the next six months in his private hell
Show dogs breed how?

January - The Swear (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "January" by The Swear
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

You stand there call me beautiful
You never understood
You stand there call me beautiful
Like I never could
So, why do you think it would come to this
You’re the one I miss
The one I miss
Making up
I’m making out
I forgot what I miss
Forgot what I
The only time I feel alive
Is the rush of his threats
And the rush of his lies
But I don’t believe in suicide
No I don’t believe

You stand there stare down at me
You never understood
I lie, I cheat, I lie, I steal
Like you never could
So, I didn’t think it would come to this
I’m the one you missed
The one you miss
I’m making up
I’m making out
And I think you love it
I think you
The only time I feel alive
Is the rush of his threats
And the rush of his lies
But I don’t believe in suicide
No I don’t believe in suicide

And I wish you would take away
Every breath, every word, every line I say
It’s a pretty (unknown lyric)
Don’t look now (unknown lyric)
The only time I feel alive
Is the rush of his threats
And the rush of his lies
But I don’t believe in suicide
No I don’t believe in suicide
The only time I feel alive
Is the rush of his threats
And the rush of his lies
But I don’t believe in suicide
No I don’t believe in suicide
The only time I feel alive
Is the rush of his threats
And the rush of his lies
But I don’t believe in suicide
No, I don’t believe
No, I don’t believe in suicide
No, I don’t believe

Another Loveless Anthem - Beat Radio (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Another Loveless Anthem" by Beat Radio

You are a symphony of silence
You are the bells off in the distance
You are a bloodless revolution
You are the heart of the resistance
I am a river of ambition
I come to wash away your shoreline
You are a most irreverent mission
You are a cinema of sunshine

You are the amber glow at daybreak
You are the soul of the revival
This is the end of modern romance
This is a matter of survival
I am another loveless anthem
Playing on your top 40 station
You are a song for aging children
You are a humble declaration

Bandage on the Bloodclot - The Henry Clay People (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Bandage on the Bloodclot" by The Henry Clay People
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy

There was a bandage
It was on the bloodclot on the main character of the sub-plot
And for the taste
And the smell of grape shot
Don’t you add anything and don’t you stop

And toward the center of the street
We felt the heat
We felt the heat
We felt the heat
We fell asleep
And little kids
Well they were stealing loaves of bread
And candy canes and cigarettes
It’s built on guilt
Let’s feel the shame
From the point (unknown lyric)
And I don’t care, I don’t care
I just want to sail the tallest ship
Through the greenest seas
And we’ll kill, kill, kill your enemies

Everything I touched was covered in dust
At the quaker to the faker
Well shriveled up the little kids all bought new dogs
They’re making raisins out of grapes
You’re the freshest fruits of the spoiled fame
We’ve got no coins become the same
And I don’t care, I don’t care
I just want to sail the tallest ship
Through the greenest seas
And we’ll kill, kill, kill your enemies

Supergang - Mock Orange (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Supergang" by Mock Orange
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee of accuracy. These especially do not seem correct at all.

Street walking space stealing spilling bloody words flooding
You and your wired eyes
Suck to the ground
And then you teach without dying
Yes to die without teaching
That’s right
We don’t decide
This thing is handy
Well the man said I needed
It keeps the animals breathing in the car
In the summer
It keeps the children from choosing their secrets
That’s right
Barely breaking the skin
It starts when we begin
But I know it’s not too late

You can feel it on the rainy sunny days when
We’ve got time to swim forever
Hey hey another one is coming from
The chain and strait into the fire
It’s raining fire
It’s raining fire
Son breath right into the fire
Sit down and wait
What ya’ wait
What ya’ thinking
What are you waiting for
I know it seems like a lot
But it’s not
And believe in that that
Tell me what should I blame
And write this book for me
‘Cause you’ve got a lot to say
It’s a miracle musical miracle
Build it up and throw me away
Anecdotes

We’ve got time to swim forever
We’ve got time to swim forever
Hey Hey another one’s coming from
We’ve got time to swim forever
Hey hey another one’s coming from
The chain and strait into the fire

ChipperDemon Changes
