December CD Release

Title?

December turned out to be a very exciting music month. Every now and then it seems ChipperDemon comes across a few artists that can simply not be ignored and thusly tend to dominate the CD. This month Dr. Dog, Adele and the last minute addition of Munchausen Proxy, Zooey Deschanel's band in Yes Man, really make up the whole collection. This month also breaks away a bit from the indie genre and really boasts the healthy addition of hip-hop and blues.

1. The Old Days - Dr. Dog
2. Right As Rain - Adele
3. Just Impolite - Plushgun
4. Can You Hear My Kids Now? - Lil' Kim vs. MGMT

6. The Beach - Dr. Dog
7. Rapt - Native Korean Rock
8. What a World - Common (featuring Chester French)

November CD Release

I Wouldn't Buy You A Sweater If It Came With A Gas Card

November feels fairly similar to last year's November, somewhat uneventful. The songs are all great but the compilation seems to lack something. The best song would be the surprising Florence and the Machine's Kiss With a Fist followed by a few other peppy tracks. Perhaps all the songs sound a little too much alike or maybe it's filled with too many unknown names. The Decemberists and The Killers are certainly news heavy names but the rest fall a little short on the recognition scale and provide too many new sounds for one CD compilation to support.

Tracklist as follows:
1. Science Fiction – French Miami
This 2 year old band, French Miami landed themselves a spot on Rolling Stone's November "Buzz List" and for good reason. In mid-November the band released their debut LP with hot hit tracks, "Science Fiction" and "The Goddamn Best." Out of San Francisco this trio delivers a Joy Division sound and mixes it up with quick guitar licks and killer shouting choruses. Between the slow but guitar brilliant "Science Fiction" and the power chord heavy "The Goddamn Best"; it was a battle between which would make it onto the November compilation, but the Ian Curtis - like voice pulled it through to be the first track giving the compilation's slow start.

2. No One Does It Like You – Department of Eagles (lyrics)
In November, Department of Eagles released their LP, In Ear Park, filled with delightful simple tracks. "No One Does It Like You" is the quintessential old sound yet entirely new and delicious. The song is incredibly simple with basic lyrics, basic instrumentals and has this overall essence of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band mixed with the Monotones. Started in NYU, this duet (Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Fred Nicolaus) stick out in this CD compilation.

3. Spaceman – The Killers (lyrics)
Just three days before Thanksgiving The Killers released their 4th full length album, Day & Age, with "Human" as their 80's-esque (picturing siting on the edge of a bed wearing a head band and jean jacket pushed up the arm looking at a photo just after doing pirouettes) single. The Killers do not really deviate from their typical sound in Day & Age, however, "Spaceman" does have one of their best attributes, a deviated subject. In addition to The Killer's catchy beats and tongue catching choruses, "Spaceman" is just odd enough to not feel disconnected but to enjoy with a bit of distance. The album as a whole is a little "too The Killers" but is a pleasant listen. "Joy Ride" and the bonus track, "A Cripling Blow," are some of the really good songs of the album and may find their way on the next Best of Rest collection

4. The Sun Ain't Shining No More – The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Another iPod commercial slut, danish band The Asteroids Galaxy Tour featured their song "Around the Bend" from their debut EP release. With a beginning similar to CSS's "Music is My Hot Hot Sex" it feels appropriate for the commercial. However, "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" is significantly different with a 70's beginning and an 80's shrill female voice hovering over the slow melody. The chorus, "He leaves my soul on the floor like a dog" just feels right.

5. Live for the Sounds – Brooke Waggoner (lyrics)
From Heal for the Honey, Brooke Waggoner's impressive full length album, "Live for the Sounds" transitions the mix into a lighter sound led by piano and violin. Featured on both the New York Post and NPR for her talent, Brooke Waggoner adds a complicated yet light lovely short ditty for ChipperDemon. Her voice is light and blends smoothly with the music acting almost as an instrument itself. The song also serves as a fantastic transition song.

6. The Wolf – Miniature Tigers (lyrics)
Miniature Tigers produced a fabulous light and catchy album, Tell it to the Volcano, that is reminiscent of high school with its simplistic song lyrics about boys and girls liking each other. "I will buy you things, like diamond rings." Miniature Tigers, based out of Phoenix, has a sound that indie-pop junkies can never get enough of. The album, acclaimed by Spin Magazine, is fun and filled with a great melodies bound to cling to one's eardrums. Rolling Stone, displaying great foresight, placed Miniature Tigers as one of the top 25 bands on Myspace back in 2006. "The Wolf" is a prime example of their brilliant work.

7. Record Year – The Decemberists (lyrics)
Over the past three months The Decemberists have been producing and releasing a three volume work, Always a Bridesmaid: A Singles Series. In true Decemberists fashion the songs act as little epics telling full stories all related to an apparent abundance of rain. "Record Year" from the 3rd Volume, Record Year for Rainfall, is a beautiful melodramatic track and a delightful use of Colin Meloy's distinct voice

8. Strobelight Honey – El Paso Hot Button
With a voice reeking of Jack White, El Paso Hot Button transitions the compilation into a strong beat and guitar heavy song. "Body and soul and mind is not in the pre-nup she says." "Strobelight Honey" is a rock song set to the scene of the club providing a bit of an odd and attractive sound-image relationship.

9. Hole in the Middle – Emily Jane White (lyrics)
It's amazing this track went over ChipperDemon's ears especially last month while one of Emily Jane White's more popular tracks, "Wild Tigers I've Known," from her album Dark Undercoat was in consideration. Hole In the Middle, on the other hand, is just an amazing song grasping at the inner-self, "Everybody does a little dance with the devil." Her voice feels in a way honest with it's lowness kind of looking one in the eye, "let's be frank."

10. We On Top a 'Dis – Ezra Bang & Hot Machine
ChipperDemon's token rap track, "We On Top a 'Dis", not only provides the hip hop sound but interjects quick rhymes and is loaded with culture relevant names. While a good deal of the song feels unconnected and a little odd, the beat is hard to ignore. As a 5 person set up Ezra Bang & Hot Machine are quite the combination. Is it possible they'll be seen on another ChipperDemon collection? Let's just say, we won't be looking but wouldn't be surprised if they found us.

11. Kiss With a Fist – Florence and the Machine (lyrics)
Perhaps one of the best songs of the whole compilation this very short production of the ChipperDemon veteran, Florence and the Machine busts out with a far different sound, produced, controlled and singing an original. Subject reminiscent of Kate Nash the song, metaphoric or not, is brilliant and extremely vivid. The song's got fantastic energy and such a great rock sound it ends far too quickly.

12. Black Fur – Fredrik

Slow and lulling a wonderful melody "Black Fur" is one of Fredrik's prettiest songs. It has the ability to lose the listener in fantastic harmony and vague lyrics.

13. Keep Yourself Warm – Frightened Rabbit (lyrics)
Skillfully a heartfelt lyric strong song, "Keep Yourself Warm," sneaks its way into the head dropping lyrics that are simply just not welcome, especially the chorus, "It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm.... you won't find love in a hole." Midnight Organ Fight seems to be a fairly typical dramatic Scottish album. The song, while poignant and vivid, is sneaky and can be troublesome in church parking lots.

14. Tambourine – The Happy Hollows
Similar to ChipperDemon's favorite, Land of Talk, The Happy Hollows are electric guitar geniuses skillfully using discordance as their best strength. Using a talk-like singing approach dropping lines about Billy Corgan, it feels strange to enjoy yet impossible to ignore. To further the odd enjoyment, the song crashes at the end expressing great distress.

15. Sleepy Tigers – Her Space Holiday (lyrics)
Bringing the compilation back to simplicity and a light hearted sound, "Sleepy Tigers," wins the compilation over just with, "dancing round our sleepy clothes." The song is crisp chanting a simple sentiment of just liking someone else and wanting to spend time with enough.

16. Take Care – Hooray for Earth
Transitioning into a very Killers like sound with a lingering chorus the song continues the pleasant sentiment of enjoying another's company, "Push me hard cause you know that I'm slack and it's a proven fact I'm never going no where without you." Based out of Boston, Hooray for Earth feels European and perhaps that is their strength, imitating a foreign sound with ease. While the song is a typical 80's synth-pop, like a good deal of the songs ChipperDemon bends toward, it beats through and the fairly long song feels minuscule.

17. Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare – Matt and Kim
Really, it's the drum that makes this song. The very catchy chorus does of course assist but it's the simple repeated piano lick and clap like drum beat that attracts the ear and head bobbing. Matt and Kim, a fairly unknown music force, is supposedly taking this single, "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare,"to lead a second album into their music recognition.

18. Lazy Eye – Silversun Pickup (lyrics)
The sound feels extremely 1990s and perhaps that is how
Silversun Pickup found themselves onto the compilation with a 2 year old song, but somehow it's too hard to pass by. For the most part its the vocals that give "Lazy Eye" its pungency while the very simple guitar keeps it flowing. The screaming chorus brings it all together cranking itself up on the stereo.

19. House Fire – Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (lyrics)
In the last week of October, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin came out with their latest collection of pop music genius, Pershing, which features the fantastic track, "Modern Mystery." Starting with a simple guitar riff that leads into light vocals growing slightly more complicated into a fairly anti-climatic but delightful chorus. The song gives listeners a chance to enjoy simple but fantastic music with poignant lyrics. However the song "House Fire" from their first full length album starts with a fantastically piano, guitar, and drum complicated intro and transitions into this elongated guitar sound guiding the ear through the bridge for an Elliot Smith-esque chorus making a track from this compilation not to forget.

Bonus Tracks:
Don't Want To Hurt You - The Sounds (lyrics)

No One Does It Like You - Department Of Eagles (Lyrics)

Below are lyrics to "No One Does It Like You" by the Department of Eagles from

Out in the morning come
You don't need to ask an alibi
And in the morning comes
You don't need to be so honest

And in the morning come
You don't need to ask an alibi
And in the morning comes
You don't need to breathe so easy

I laughed so hard I fell down
I cursed these lanes I walked on

No one does it like you
No one does it like you
I tried so hard
But no one does it like you
No one does it like you
But I tried so hard

I tried so hard
I tried so hard

Spaceman - The Killers (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Spaceman" by The Killers from Day & Age

It started with a low light,
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed;
And then they took my blood type,
It left a strange impression in my head.
You know that I was hoping,
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind;
But when they cut me open,
I guess that changed my mind.
And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time,
’cause they calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
disregards the bombs and satellites
That was the turning point;
That was one lonely nigh
The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
Its all in your mind”
Well now I’m back at home, and-
I’m looking forward to this life I live;
You know its gonna haunt me,
So hesitation to this life I give.
You think you might cross over,
You’re caught between the devil and the deep blue sea;
You better look it over,
Before you make that leap
And you know I’m fine,
but I hear those voices at night sometimes they justify my claim,
and the public don’t dwell my transmission
’cause it wasn’t televised
But, it was the turning point,
Oh what a lonely night
The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad;
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
Its all in your mind”
The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad;
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
Its all in your mind”
My global position systems are vocally addressed;
They say the Nile used to run from east to west,
They say the Nile used to run - from east to west.
And you know I’m fine,
but I hear those voices at night,
sometimes
The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad;
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
Its all in your mind”
The song maker says, “It ain’t so bad”
The dream maker’s going make you mad;
The spaceman says, “Everybody look down
Its all in your mind”
It’s all in my mind

Live For the Sounds - Brooke Waggoner (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Live For the Sounds" by Brooke Waggoner from Heal For the Honey

Why do you ask, do you ask me why?
I live inside my head.
You know this.
Croon to the tune of your own sweet sighs
I'll chant and chant and chant this anthem

Beat on the walls and on the ground
To hear the floor and feel the sound
Drink all da' moisture you can down
Of heaven's juice until you drown

Stitch up your lips with pins and please
Never never tell my secrets
We are the ones without disease
But medicine is still much needed

Beat on the walls and on the ground
To hear the floor and feel the sound
Drink all da' moisture you can down
Of heaven's juice until you drown

Why do you ask do you ask me why?
I live for the sounds and gain their wisdom.
Croon to the tune of your own sweet sighs
Beat on the drums 'til you grow numb.

The Wolf - Miniature Tigers (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "The Wolf" by Miniature Tigers from Tell It To the Volcano

Add nice
Sugar and spice
I'll take you on a cruise to somewhere nice
You haven't been before
Love was meant for more
You moved up close, I could feel your sweat
I kissed you on your neck and you got wet
It's a shallow treat for a guy like me

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you

I've got nothin' keeping me here
I've wasted all the love that I hold dear
I'll throw a dart: L.A.
The wolf has run away
The guy you know thinks he's so slick
He'll kiss you on your lips but he'll get sick
Lothario..
He's a creep you know

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want you
Like they want to go home with you

I'm on your trail, I can smell your blood
I've had enough with unrequited love
It's the coast I crave
Leads me to my grave
Still in my head was the sick of my spine
Give it up and I will make you mine
I will buy you things
Like diamond rings

Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Everybody's looking at you like they want you
Everybody's looking at you like they want to
Like they want to go home with you

Record Year - The Decemberists (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Record Year" by The Decemberists from Always the Bridesmaid Volume III

I read in the paper today
It’s been a record year for rainfall
And you were leaning ‘gainst the bathroom wall
In your lonely dress
Was your only dress

Stand accusing across
I got a temper set for tender
And you were shrugging it off like a feather
Saying, “Oh
Would you look at this weather?”

What’s the use of all of this?
It’s to remember you in the entire
Cause I’m watching it slip away
And in the annals of the empire
Did it look this grey
Before the fall?
Before the fall

So rake your thumbnail across
The stretch of the patina
Revealing a Proserpina
In a low recline
In a steep decline

What’s the use of all of this?
It’s to remember you in the entire
Cause I’m watching it slip away
And in the annals of the empire
Did it look this grey
Does it look so grey
Does it always look so grey
Before the fall?
Before the fall

Hole in the Middle - Emily Jane White (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Hole in the Middle" by Emily Jane White from Dark Undercoat

Everybody's got a little hole in the middle
Everybody does a little dance with the devil
Everybody's got a little hole in the middle
Everybody does a little dance with the devil

And you know I'm evil now
And you shout it loud and proud
Singing born in the USA
And you know I'm evil now
And you shout it loud and proud
Singing born in the USA

And I play with my voodoo doll
Stick those pins and drive them in
Singing born in the USA

And I play with my voodoo doll
Stick those pins and drive them in
Singing born in the USA

Oh and everybody's got a little hole in the middle
Everybody does a little dance with the devil
And everybody's got a little hole in the middle
Everybody does a little dance with the devil

And you know I'm evil now
And you shout it loud and proud
Singing born in the USA
And you know I'm evil now
And you shout it loud and proud
Singing born in the USA

Kiss With a Fist - Florence and the Machine (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Kiss With a Fist" by Florence and the Machine

you hit me once
i hit you back
you gave a kick
i gave a slap
you smashed a plate
over my head
then i set fire to our bed

you hit me once
i hit you back
you gave a kick
i gave a slap
you smashed a plate
over my head
then i set fire to our bed

My black eye casts no shadow
your red eye sees no pain
your slaps don't stick
your kicks don't hit
so we remain the same
blood sticks and
sweat drips
break the lock if it don't fit
a kick in the teeth is good for some
a kiss with a fist is better than none
a-woah a kiss with a fist is better than none

broke your jaw once before spilt your blood upon the floor
you broke my leg in return
sit back and watch the bed burn
well love sticks sweat drips
break the lock if it don't fit
a kick in the teeth is good for some
a kiss with a fist is better than none
a-woah a kiss woth a fist is better than none

you hit me once
i hit you back
you gave a kick
i gave a slap
you smashed a plate over my head
then i set fire to our bed

you hit me once
i hit you back
you gave a kick
i gave a slap
you smashed a plate over my head
then i set fire to our bed

Keep Yourself Warm - Frightened Rabbit (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Keep Yourself Warm" by Frightened Rabbit from The Midnight Organ Fight

My hole, I'll get my hole, I'll get my hole
Get my hole, get my hole and I'll find out more.
It's a choo-choo train, a rocket launch
If we have a hormone race
i'm bound to finish first.

Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off,
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm.
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

Oh, you won't find love in a,
Won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm.

I'm drunk, I'm drunk
And you're probably on pills
If we've both got the same diseases
It's irrelevant girl
And the room fills with steam
Oh, evaporates disappears
My point of entry is the same way
That I leave

Can you see in the dark?
Can you see the look on your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep warm.
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

But, you won't find love in a, won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm.

You won't find love in a, won't find love in a hole.
It takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself-
SEE in the dark!
Can you see the look in your face?
The flashing white light's been turned off
You don't know know who's in your bed.

It takes more than fucking someone you don't know
to keep warm
Do you really think that for a house-beat you'll find your love in a hole?

Sleepy Tigers - Her Space Holiday (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Sleepy Tigers" by Her Space Holiday from XOXO Panda: The New Kid Revival

Oh I like you so very much so much in fact I gotta wake you up
It’s not that I have words to speak
I just wanna see you looking at me
In a way, that states
In an hour when the sun comes up
We’re gonna put on our shoes we’re gonna shake the dust
Open the door with your brand new key
We won’t be afraid of being sweet
to ourselves
Or anybody! anybody else!

Oh I miss you so very much so much in fact i gotta call you up
It’s not that I have news to bring
I just wanna make your telephone ring
So it shows and you know
In a week when I fly back home
We’re gonna jump in bed and be all alone
you’ll make biscuits and I’ll make tea
We’ll curl up close and then fall asleep
To the sound… of no one else no else around

And if Ive learned anything at all
In this short life of mine (it’s this)…
If you hear that joy has come to town
Track it down, take a picture and tape it to your eyes

Oh I love you so very much so much in fact I'm gonna switch it up
I'm gonna take this room that I built for fun
And burn down the walls in front of everyone
So they see, you and me
Dancing in our sleepy clothes
With two big smiles and a bowl of hope!
That we’ll drink down like ginger tea
The heat will help us forget everything
That you and I, that you and I have seen

And if Ive learned anything at all
In this short life of mine (it’s this)…
If you hear that joy has come to town
Track it down, take a picture and tape it to your eyes

Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups from

I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
But it's not quite right

And this 'real'
It's impossible if possible
At who's blind word
So clear but so unheard

I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this silence all night long
It's just a matter of time

To appear sad
With the same ol' decent lazy eye
Fixed to rest on you
Aim free and so untrue

Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone can focus clearly with that shine

Lost and Loaded
Still the same ol' decent lazy eye
Straight through your gaze that's why I said I related
I said we relate
It's so fun to relate

It's the room the sun and the sky
It's the room the sun and the sky

I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment

House Fire - Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "House Fire" by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin from Broom

We did what we could
To save this house from falling
But it burns because it's wood
And now you’ll never call me darling

I coughed your name
I smoked all day
And I slept myself sleepy
I was sleeping it away

Don't let it burn
Don't get confused
Don't let it get to you

We did what we could
To save this car from crashing
Your pretty face is soaked in blood
You know, I still find you dashing

Airbag suffocates
You need a little space
The rain on the windshield
I watched you limp away

Doesn't have to hurt?
Don't get confused
Don't let it bother you
Don't try to call you’ll lose it all
You get used to her bad news,
It's just bad news

Don't Want to Hurt You - The Sounds (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Don't Want to Hurt You" by The Sounds from Dying to Say This to You

Don't want hurt you
Try not to mess with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust
Don't want hurt you
Try not to fuck with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust

You should come over
Cause I can tell from your eyes
Why won't you tell me what's really on your mind
Too much confusion
You need a little more time
So many times now we've been through this before

Don't want hurt you
Try not to mess with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust
Don't want hurt you
Try not to fuck with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust

Can we start over
Or should I leave you behind?
Give me an answer
But please don't tell me the truth
What's your solution?
You can't make up your mind
This is my answer, you know I wanna leave

Don't say you just wanna go!
Don't you know you're on your own?
Don't say you just wanna go!
Don't you know you're on your own?

Don't want hurt you
Don't want hurt you
Try not to mess with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust
Don't want hurt you
Try not to fuck with your feelings
It's just a matter of trust, for us, for lust

Don't say you just wanna go!
Don't you know you're on your own?
Don't say you just wanna go!
Don't you know you're on your own?

Don't want hurt you
Don't want hurt you
Try not to mess with your feelings
Don't say you just wanna go
Don't want hurt you
Don't want hurt you
Try not to mess with your feelings
Don't say you just wanna go
Don't want hurt you
Don't want hurt you
Try not to fuck with your feelings
Don't say you just wanna go

Like or Like Like - Miniature Tigers (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Like or Like Like" by the Miniature Tigers from Tell It to the Volcano

I watched you through your window
I was wearing that dumb sweatshirt
I looked like a goon
I was dressed for winter
Even though it was the middle of June

I watched you get undressed
I must have turned bright red
'Cause I couldn't stand to face you
'Cause I liked what I saw
And maybe we should just be friends

Tell me how you feel about me
Do you like or like like me
Tell me what you really feel
Do you like me
Just say you do

I climbed up your front porch
And I doorbell ditched ya
And I felt so bad
Couldn't cop to what I did
So I laughed myself sick all the way to my car

Tell me how you feel about me
Do you like or like like me
Tell me what you really feel
Do you like me
Just say you do

Tell me how you feel about me
Do you like or like like me
Tell me what you really feel
Do you like me
Tell me how you feel about me
Do you like or like like me
Tell me what you really feel
Do you like me
Just say you do

October CD Release

Duets of Dodging Acorns

This month is certainly dominated by boy/girl duets and a glorious amount of terrific tracks. Each song is delightful in its own unique way between the musically complex and the lyrically genius. Not every song will be a favorite for ChipperDemon listeners but there is at least one favorite for every listener.

October made it hard for there to be a bad set of songs with the release of some major beat thumpers. TV on the Radio came out with their new album recently and was a second place finalist for this month's compilation with "Dancing Choose," which just goes to show how stiff the competition was. Ben Folds came out with his new CD, and if it weren't his collaboration with ChipperDemon's favorite Russian musician, Regina Spektor, who knows if he would have even gotten an honorable mention. Ingrid Michaelson, whom you may recognize from last October's mix, has also come out with her new album and has proven to just get better and better.

To have also improved over the year is Los Campesinos! with their new released stuff. They made an appearance on last November's CD. To top off all the big name releases, Jukebox the Ghost, from June, April and October, has been reported to be in the studio and mixing up some good stuff for their next album. Luckily, we got a hold of the demo and are more than excited to include two of their premature productions in October's collection. Aside from the known names there are quite a few new musicians added to ChipperDemon's artist folder this month as well. Mother Mother and Jared Mees and the Grown Children are happy additions.

Tracklist as follows:

 1. You, Me & the Bourgeoisie - The Submarines (lyrics)
Because ChipperDemon consistently collects commercial songs (this track is featured in iPhone's new 3G phone commercial) we give you the delightful Submarines. The chorus insists on ChipperDemon's attention, "who are we to breakdown? every day we wake up, we choose love, choose light, we try, it's too easy to just fall apart." Honeysuckle Weeks (May 2008) is there second album, making an appearance on Nip/Tuck and Grey's Anatomy and then later recording a version of "Little Boxes" for the show Weeds. Apple wasn't the first to snag this duo.

With the release of Caffeine Alcohol Sunshine Money (October 2008), Jared Mees exemplifies the fantastic possibilities of boy/girl voice collaborations. Between the poppy "Friday Night," lyric heavy "Tallest Building in Hell" and twang filled "Black Coffee," the album is quite versatile and worth an extensive listen. It's hard not to love a band when their songs feel light and with simple lyrics but complex music to support it. Also, their record label is called Tender Loving Empire, it's just hard not to fall in love with that. "The radio is on and it's turning my heart into gold."

 3. Miserabilia - Los Campesinos! (lyrics)
Los Campesinos! came out with a surprising amount of great tracks on their new set of works with their signature boy/girl use. We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed (October 2008) consists of slightly more lyric and much more music strong tracks making album number two quite a fantastic addition to ChipperDemon's Los Campesinos! collection. "Miserabilia" burts on the mix with great bits of imagery, "We got nostalgic, ended up filling shoe boxes with vomit." The chorus also just screams out making it a very powerful song.

 4. Anticlimax - Kat Flint (lyrics)
This track mixes up the beginning of the compilation a little bit. It breaks from the energy building and delights one with a lovely guitar riff into a fantastic set of lyrics. "I try to decide to be good when I'm lonely, but doo doo doo doo doo doo, I can't." Kat Flint's Dirty Birds (September 2008) features various instrumental tracks with clever lyrics. There's nothing all together unique about her music style, however, credit is always due to musically talented clever lyrcists. She has certainly been added to the ChipperDemon must watch list.

 5. Midnight Blues - The Detroit Cobras (lyrics)
Ever since the Black Keys came out with their last album, rock/blues heavy songs have been like candy. This track from the Detroit Cobras' Mink Rat or Rabbit (1998), a cover from Charlie Rich back in the 1950s, offers a delirously delicious electric guitar and low sultry smoker's voice that belts this wonderful bridge, "Everytime I feel a little bit free, I hear those blues, midnight blues." And then the best lyric of the song, "I just can't help but feel a little bit chained, everytime I hear you call my name." This Detroit Cobra cover is just pure ear candy.

 6. Old Friend - Future Islands (lyrics)
To continue the pattern of unexpected sounding tracks this 80s-esque synthpop sound from Baltimore's Future Islands follows "Midnight Blues" quite nicely and continues this rather quick beat that picks up the pace of the compilation. Future Islands, formed in Greenville, NC, dropped Wave Like Home (September 2008) with a plethora of bumping beats worth listening to. The only noteable lyric, "I whisper the tongue like an old friend" is all the song needs, it's really the music that gives it its charm.

 7. Sociopath - Anya Marina (lyrics)
This absolute gem of a song is just a demo of what is to come from this flirtatious rock sound off of Slow & Steady Seduction Phase II (December 2008). It wouldn't be expected that this clever lyrcist would be featured on MTV and nominated for a Best Pop award, but she was. The rest of the songs on the album are quite poppy, a little less clever, but a few of them are delightful. "Sociopath" wins its listeners greatly with, "I'm pathologically addicted to what you call a dickhead." The song is just masochistically enjoyable.

 8. Nobody - Jukebox the Ghost (lyrics)
With the intention of Jukebox the Ghost making an earlier appearance on the compilation, "Nobody" just fits so well right after "Sociopath." "Nobody" is a little masochistic itself and rings a bit of similar sentiment as Los Campesinos' "Miserabilia." However, Jukebox the Ghost jumps into the mix with their piano strong, significant vocal style and finger tapping crescendos. It's exciting to see them back on the music scene so soon after their debut album, Let Live and Let Ghosts (April 2008).

 9. Crooked Teeth - Oliver Thiessen (lyrics)
Of all of the songs Oliver Thiessen seems to have come up with, "Crooked Teeth" stands out by a great deal. It has this eerie simple sound that lulls and sways its listeners. His voice guides through the song but lets one get lost in imagery of moonlit nights and golden fields. The sentiment gets a little lost with complicated lyrics but holds the song together with the beginning, "Your teeth are crooked from all the lies you ate... you thought it was love but you were wrong." It's the song's simplicity that really makes it stand out.

10. You & I - Ingrid Michaelson (lyrics)
This track is another fantastic boy/girl duet done by the amazing Ingrid Michaelson. Her new album, Be OK (October 2008), is a wonderful series of Ingrid original tracks. Her ability to write about such simplistic messages in her somewhat peppy style is an attribute unmatched. "You & I" is just one of many great songs but definitely exemplifies her lyrical talent. "I want to do what bunnies do with you if you know what I mean" coming from any other artist would be entirely different, she manages to say it with innocence and charm, maybe it's because its accomponied by a eukelelea. Proceeds from her new album also go toward Stand Up To Cancer. "Baby, how we spoon like no one else."

11. Hayloft - Mother Mother (lyrics)
This rather fast paced track knocks the mix up a notch and leads listeners into this odd imagery but has such an unexpected sound that it holds attention. "Young lovers with their legs tied up in knots." Mother Mother is the first Canadian band to pop up on this month's compilation and does not disapoint. While the second track of theirs from O My (September 2008) on this mix is perhaps the superior of the two, the combination of them both shows their impressive variety.

12. I Love You - Esser (lyrics)
Perhaps one of the catchiest songs on the mix, Esser's "I Love You" will find its way into the everyday life constantly repeating, "Love is no excuse for bad art." Esser is by far one of the oddest artists that ChipperDemon seems to have come across. With a lack of internet literature on the band and their London location they are almost impossible to research. "I wish I could find the words, to tell you how I feel, oh these cold and tainted syllables" will haunt one's eardrums; beware.

13. You Don't Know Me (Featuring Regina Spektor) - Ben Folds (lyrics)
With no offense to Ben Folds, he has this very repetitive sound with his voice. While he appears to have an immense amount of song composition talent, his songs nearly always fall flat in some way. Yet! with Regina Spektor of the other end of the piano bench the creation of one of the best songs this year comes out onto a ChipperDemon compilation. With an excellent mix of beat and Regina's subtle influence, "You Don't Know Me" is outstanding ditty to bob to from Way to Normal (September 2008).

14. Soo Clean - St. Paul Slim
It's not often that ChipperDemon features a rap song, so when we do we like to think it's because it is just that great of a song. St. Paul Slim, while very vulgar, has accomplished a rather brilliant set of lyrics in "Soo Clean." "I wouldn't buy your shit if it came with a gas card" and "I'm old school like the woolly mammoth" are just a couple of the lines that brought this song onto this month's compilation.

15. Me + Your Daughter - Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (lyrics)
Aside from having a song title-esque band name, Natalie Portman's Shaved Head is an of course ChipperDemon loved band. Their simplistic fun song subjects and boogie inducing sound inspires the lamest to move even just a little. "Me + Your Daughter" off of Glistening Pleasure (July 2008) is original and smile producing with it's naughty overcast on the high school days that these kids are not far from leaving behind. "Brothers like me know to be squeeky clean, very cool for the parents... me and your daughter touching my body, she is so lovely." It makes one want to protect all high school girls they come across.

16. Total Job - The Faint (lyrics)
It does seem a little unfair to include The Faint on a second compilation in a row considering how many songs had to be cut but "calling Sydney" just sticks in the head and their unique sound is needed for some variety among the entire compilation. It is also just hard to avoid The Faint's new album, Fasciinatiion (August 2008), which has just been such a long wait for ChipperDemon.

17. Boys with Girlfriends - Meiko (lyrics)
Meiko is certainly not new to ChipperDemon but "Boys with Girlfriends" off her new self titled album (September 2008) is just a great song. Following a theme with many of the songs on this mix, the simple and down to Earth message about such an every day thing that isn't heard that often is really Meiko's strength. While some of her songs are tear inducing she also has sweet and innocent tracks as might be remembered from "How Lucky We Are" on June's A Year's Worth of Treasured Trash. "I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends" how precious.

18. Mistletoe - Jukebox the Ghost (lyrics)
Again, just another fantastic track from Jukebox the Ghost. It is perhaps too much of a tease to have two of their pre-recorded songs so early but who can wait for great music? As for this song, "Don't look at me like another lost soul" grapples at those heart strings out of the chorus. It's also somewhat refreshing and interesting to center a song on such a symbol rich object "Oh my mistletoe, called me up on the phone." With the holidays coming up around the corner, this is sure to be track repeated throughout the coming months.

19. My Body is a Cage - Sara Lov (lyrics)
Covering Arcade Fire, "My Body is a Cage" by Sara Lov on her 5 song collection, The Young Eyes ep, has a lovely melody and somber message that is few and far between on this collection. Her voice carries the song and is probably why her version is slightly stronger than Arcade Fire.

20. Wrecking Ball - Mother Mother (lyrics)
Mother Mother does a great job of using imagery to stage their songs. While they are not telling a story and providing the listener with a well illustrated song they do have lovely metaphors. The image of a fist as a wrecking ball is poinant and easy to visualize. Mother Mother has definitely proven their skill and versatile song approach, which is always recognized and appreciated.

You, Me and the Bourgeoisie - The Submarines (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "You, Me and the Bourgeoisie" by The Submarines from Honeysuckle Weeks

Here I am with all the pleasures of the first world
Laid out before me who am I to breakdown?

Everyday I wake up,
I choose Love
I choose Light
And I try, it's too easy just to fall apart

Oh my baby don't be so distressed
Were done with politesse
It's time to be so brutally honest about
The way we know long for something fine
When we pine for higher ceilings
And bourgeois happy feelings

And here we are in the center of the first world
It's laid out before us, who are we to break down?

Everyday we wake up
We choose Love
We choose light
And we try, it's too easy just to fall apart

Plastic Bottles
Imported Water
Cars we drive wherever we want to
Clothes we buy it's sweatshop labor
Drugs from corporate enablers
We're not living the Good life
Unless we're fighting the Good fight
You and Me just trying to get it right

In the center of the first world
It's laid out before us, who are we to break down?

Everyday we wake up
We choose Love
We choose light
And we try, it's too easy just to fall apart

Love can free us from all excess
From our deepest debts
Cause when our hearts are full we need much less

Yea i know we long for something fine
When we pine for higher ceilings
And bourgeois happy feelings

But Here we are in the center of the first world
It's laid out before us, who are we to break down?

Here we are in the center of the first world
It's laid out before us, who are we to break down?

Everyday we wake up
We choose Love
We choose light
And we try, it's too easy just to fall apart

Everyday we wake up
We choose Love
We choose light
And we try, it's too easy just to fall apart

Bees - Jared Mees and the Grown Children (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Bees" by Jared Mees and the Grown Children from Caffeine Alcohol Sunshin Money
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee for accuracy

Send us a signal
Give us a sign
The needle’s on empty
But you swore everything would be fine
But it’s on fire and there’s bees in the walls
They’re buzzing so loud
That I swear I miss every one of my calls

So do it with smoke
Do it with light
But whatever you do
Just make sure that it’s strong and it’s bright
‘Cause it feels like the end
But I now and then overreact
They’ve been saying that since way back
When the moon turned to blood and made rivers all over your back now

This (unknown lyric) world of conviction
And a lifetime of wonder
Creeping suspicion that it’s all soon going under
(unknown lyric) sandals from that landslide in the small town
The wax from the candles on the strap of her costume ball gown
It comes through the windows just like radiation
It penetrates like a saber
And according to all my calculations
The sickness will descend in even gradations
Defying the preacher’s evaluations
Now is always better than later

Go get the door
Send them away
This is not a good time
And it doesn’t look like a good day
‘Cause the house has the odds
They’re a hundred to one
That you will decay in your tracks
And go blind as you stare at the sun
Just making his rounds
And increasing the dread
That each morning you leave slightly more of yourself in the bed
But the radio is on
And it’s turning my heart into gold
And the guilt I once had is gone
It’s been replaced by a fear of dying before I get old now

(unknown lyric) the decay
We’ll stay with you all of your life
The way that the blood still decades later stains your pen knife
It’s 10:59 according to the clock at the station
Oh what a perfect time to begin making accusations
It’s easy to forget but it’s tough to lose
Like the color of your complexion
Blends in so nicely with purples and blues
And most of the time it’s disguised as a bruise
It sleeps under the skin as the good life accrues
‘Cause if breathing is the error it’s the simplest correction
‘Cause if breathing is the error it’s the simplest correction

Miserabilia - Los Campesinos (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Miserabilia" by Los Campesinos! from We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed

Go!

Breathe... easy
Your hands will remain empty
When you have stopped clutching at straws
Clean two bad memories
Forget all the insufferable bores
No one matters
(No one matters)
No one cares

He whispered, "Oh my God,
This really is a joy to behold"
For he said it's a joy to be held
So I held him too close
It was a grave mistake...
He never came back again

I'm not saying there's good in none of this
Miserabilia to show the kids
I'm not saying that you're responsible
Miserabilia for one, for all

I've spend too much time on my knees
Next to urinals in garish Mexican restaurants
Sobbing into my warm, pale palms
For a better understanding of her dietary requirements

Cried on ocean floors all walking into clubs
Not '06, not '08, two thousand, 2010!
2004, (?), oh my God, oh my God!

We got nostalgic,
Ended up filling shoeboxes with vomit
Collected scabs in lockets,
Hung them round our necks like nooses
None of it mattered
(None of it matters)
Nobody cared

I'm not saying there's good in none of this
Miserabilia to show the kids
I'm not saying that you're responsible
Miserabilia for one, for all

I have broken down
Into the naked breasts of a newly ex
And no dignity, I can only guess
That she thinks about it
When she touches herself

Shout at the world because the world doesn't love you!
Lower yourself because you know that you'll have to!

Anticlimax - Kat Flint (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Anticlimax" by Kat Flint from Dirty Birds

Shall we kiss on the lips
Or will I say that I'm sorry?
That on any other day of the week I would have asked you back
But tonight I'm a mess
And I'm afraid that you'll worry
And it seems so easy to tell myself that, tell myself that
Tell myself that's true
But I hope it's fooling you

'Cause I tried to decide to be good when I'm lonely
But doo doo doo doodoo doo doo doodoo, I can't
When this day is full of things that bring out the worst in me
And we're both aware that I can't help but stare, but stare at you
Can't help but stare at you

And all I need is time
To grow up, to grow bored, and to grow wise, but
You're so, you're so beautiful tonight

As stories go, I don't know
I could be your anticlimax
I could disappoint you slowly but surely
And you won't know 'til you try
'Til you dare to waste your time
If I could be the anticlimax of your life

So can we sit side by side and talk about nothing?
Well, any excuse is all that I want right now
And I'm charmed and entertained by all of the strangest things
Hey, you are one
Come do your worst, but kiss me first
Then do your worst to me

Oh, 'cause all I need is time
To grow up, to grow bored, and to grow wise
But you're so, you're so beautiful tonight

As stories go, I don't know
I could be your anticlimax
I could disappoint you slowly but surely
And you won't know 'til you try (you won't know until you try)
'Til you dare to waste your time
(You won't know until you try)
If I could be the anticlimax of your life

Ba ba, ba ba, ba ba badaba ba ba

As stories go, I don't know
I could be your happy ending
I'm a long shot at the best of times
But then you never know, stay and see
How you might be waiting for me
And stranger things have happened and see, happened and see
Happened and see, oh

Ooh, no no no

All I need is time
To grow up, to grow bored, and to grow wise, but
You're so, you're so beautiful tonight
Oh, you're so, you're so beautiful tonight

Midnight Blues - Detroit Cobras (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Midnight Blues" performed by the Detroit Cobras from Mink Rat or Rabbit

Midnight, why are you doin' me wrong?
Keepin' me up all night long
Every time I feel a little bit free
I hear those blues, midnight blues
Convinced they're calling me

Midnight, you keep me runnin' around
Made up my mind, I'm gonna settle down
Every time I feel a little bit free
I hear those blues, midnight blues
Convinced they're calling me

I just can't help but feel a little bit shamed
Every time I hear you calling my name
I'm blaming you for all the bad things I've done
Still I will admit that every once in a while, it was fun

Oh, every night
You keep me runnin' around
Made up my mind, I'm gonna settle down
Every time I feel a little bit free
I hear those blues, midnight blues

Midnight blues, keeps on calling
Night blues, keeps on calling

Old Friend - Future Islands (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Old Friend" by Future Islands from Wave Like Home

I whisper the tongue like an old friend
I cherish my time here alone
I wait in the eyes of the passing nights,
to help me laugh brushfires again
by the swallows sleeve, I’m a new hand
cutting out the shapes that burn me
I can touch the mouths of these child gods
and these true minds that hurt man

and the will will go up
to the crashing sails
and the crushing wails
of my old pan
this wind screams while I’m asleep
and dreams that these white eyes
will smile again

and the will will go up
to the crashing sails
and the crushing wails
of my old pan
this wind screams while I’m asleep
and dreams that these white eyes
will smile again

I take to the road like an old man
I cherish my time here alone
I process the lines of the passing lights
losing myself, I change my plans

by the western walls, I’m a cursed hand
by the eastern seas, I’m hardly wrong
I can swing myself down from these trees
when I crave a glimpse of weary sands

I whisper the tongue like an old friend
I cherish my time here alone
I swing myself down from these trees
to help me laugh brushfires again

Sociopath - Anya Marina (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Sociopath" by Anya Marina from Slow & Steady Seduction Phase II

I'm not much for dope or drink
And that's thanks to Dr. Shrink
But one thing I can't kick is
I can't kick a man

I'm pathologically addicted
To what we call a "dick head"
Cheaters and liars seem to light my fire
And god, I gotta get clean

So I did, yeah, I did

I took a bath with a sociopath
I took a bath with a sociopath
And I'll be sorry, but for now I'll laugh about it
All night long

'Cause I like a little coffee with my cream
I like a little dirty with my clean
And my baby’s really filthy
My baby's really somethin'
And my baby can dysfunction

I took a bath with a sociopath
I took a bath with a sociopath
And I'll be sorry, but for now I'll laugh about it
All night long

'Cause I like a little coffee with my cream
I like a little dirty with my clean
And my baby’s really filthy
My baby's really somethin'
And my baby can dysfunction

I took a bath with a sociopath
I took a bath with a sociopath
And I'll be sorry, but for now I'll laugh about it
All night long

Nobody - Jukebox the Ghost (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to the "Nobody" demo by Jukebox the Ghost
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee for accuracy

I’ve never known why
It’s a crime to say we’re not fine
But I’ve never been quite alright
Though I will admit the time
This time is on my side

We think to start it
Let’s go home to where the heart is
So when you feel left out
Oh go have a shout to nobody
‘Cause you don’t need body at all
While, while I’m locked out
Oh I’ll have a shout to nobody
‘Cause I don’t need nobody at all
I’m singing na da la da

I know that I might be to blame
For the pain you’ve been in
And the strange rules of this game
But I’ll try not to be martyr
But I feel that sometime soon
Something big is going to change

We think to start it
Let’s go home to where the heart is
So when you feel left out
Oh go have a shout to nobody
Cause you don’t need nobody at all
While, while I’m locked out
Oh I’ll have a shout to nobody
‘Cause I got nobody at all
I’m singing na da la da da dum
La da…

So while you call me home
Ah you’ve got a place for your body
When you’ve got no one at all
While you’re, while you’re up in the clouds
Don’t you feel like you’ve left your body
Cause you’ve got nobody at all
La da…

So while you call me home
Oh, you’ve got a place for your body
When you’ve got no one at all
While, while you call me home
Oh, you’ve got a place for your body
When you’ve got nobody at all
I’m singing na da la da da la da dum

Crooked Teeth - Oliver Thiessen (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Crooked Teeth" by Oliver Thiessen
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee for accuracy

Your teeth are crooked from all the lies you ate
From all those words you (unknown lyric) hate
You thought it was love but you were wrong
You thought it was love but you were wrong

Could I comfort you with some kind words
Or maybe a good ear you would prefer
You could tell me your whole story
Or we could just stay up all night watching the sun set and the sun rise

We come in and go out all the same
But it’s those days in between that get in the way
Holding us back from being ourselves
Letting life put us on the shelf

But you were always meant to shine
Not like the sun or the moon at night
But like the galaxies far away
Like the golden fields on a clear summer’s day

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
And I think you’ll get more beautiful as you get older
More confident and whole
Not like a bottle of wine
All screwed up and left in the cellar to rot and hide away

So go and get your teeth straightened out
'Cause these haters and liars know nothing about you
Not like I do
Not like I do

You and I - Ingrid Michaelson (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "You and I" by Ingrid Michaelson from Be OK

Don't you worry there my honey
We might not have any money
But we've got our love to pay the bills

Maybe I think you're cute and funny
Maybe I wanna do want bunnies do with you if you know what I mean

Oh lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Well you might be a bit confused
And you might be a little bit bruised
But baby how we spoon like no one else
So I will help you read those books
If you will soothe my worried looks
And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

*ChipperDemon would like to thank Ingrid Michaelson for posting her lyrics on her website.

Hayloft - Mother Mother (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Hayloft" by Mother Mother from O My

My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.
My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
ga - ga - ga - ga - ga

It started with the hayloft a-creakin',
well it just started in the hay - LOFT
With his longjohns on, Pop went a-creeping,
out to the barn, up to the hay.
Young lovers and they are not sleeping,
young lovers in the hay - LOFT.
With his gun turned on, Pop went a-creeping,
out to the barn, up to the hay - LOFT.

My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.
My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
ga - ga - ga - ga - ga

Ahh.. yaa.. yaa.. ya.

Ga - ga - ga - ga - ga - ga

My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.
My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
ga - ga - ga - ga - ga

It started with the hayloft a-creakin',
well it just started in the hay..
With his longjohns on, Pop went a-creeping,
out to the barn, up to the hay - LOFT.
Young lovers with their legs tied up in knots,
Young lovers with their legs tied up in knots,
With his long, tall gun, Pop went a-creeping,
To blow their hay-loft dead heads straight off.

My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.
My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.
My daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
my daddy's got a gun,
you better run.

I Love You - Esser (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "I Love You" by Esser

I love you
you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
you
But I don't know how to tell you that

How to describe all these feelings I'm feeling
Love can be draining like internal bleeding
How do I tell you that I'm breaking in half
when love is no excuse for bad art

I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that

How do I know that you're not being misleading
Love can be dangerous like a fire in your kitchen
You bring me up then you tear me apart
Still, love is no excuse for bad art

I'd come in
offer you
You'd think I'm weird
but it's true
I know that I'll prove you wrong
And that this is not another pointless love song

I love you
Tainted syllables
Are not what I'm meaning
I wish I could find the words
To tell you how Im feeling
Oh, these cold and tainted syllables
Are not what I'm meaning
I wish I could find the words
To tell you how I'm feeling
Oh, these cold and tainted syllables
Are not what I'm meaning
I wish I could find the words
To tell you how I'm feeling
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that
I love you
But I don't know how to tell you that

You Don't Know Me (Featuring Regina Spektor) - Ben Folds (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "You Don't Know Me" by Ben Folds and Regina Spektor from Way to Normal

I wanna ask you
Do you ever sit and wonder
It's so strange
That we could be together for
So long, and never know, never care
What goes on in the other one's head?

Things I've felt but I've never said
You said things that I never said
So I'll say something that I should have said long ago

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

You could have just propped me up on the table like a mannequin
Or a cardboard stand-up and paint me (paint me)
Any face that you wanted me
To be seen.
We're
Damned by the existential moment where
We saw the couple in the coma and
It was we were the cliché
But we carried on anyway

So, sure, I could just close my eyes
Yeah, sure, trace and memorize
But can you go back once you know

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me

If I'm the person that you think I am
Clueless chump you seem to think I am
So easily led astray
An errant dog who occasionally escapes and needs a shorter leash, then
Why the fuck would you want me back

Maybe it's because

(You don't know me at all)

(You don't know me
you don't know me)

So, what I'm trying to say is
What (What?)
I'm trying to tell you
It's not gonna come out like I wanna say it cause I know you'll only change it
(Say it)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all
(You don't know me)
You don't know me at all (at all)

What?

Me + Your Daughter - Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Me + Your Daughter" by Natalie Portman's Shaved Head from Glistening Pleasure

Suckaz wanna roll tryin'a get that gold
But they never gonna get your daughter that way
Brothaz like me know to be squeaky clean
play it cool for the parents

I picked her up in my Trans Am Baby
We hit the night like a slap in the face

Me and your daughter
Never been hotter
Rockin’ this party

Me and your daughter
Touchin’ my body
she is so lovely

Me and your daughter
Hotter and hotter
Suspended in sweet, sweet summer love
It’s the kind of thing
You don’t want to end
So don’t make us go home ever again!

I need her love and it’s legit
You must admit that we just fit

Total Job - The Faint (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Total Job" by The Faint from Fasciination

Sharp dressed servers where the upscale dine
A safe dial turned by a glove in the crimes of night
A nurse in an ambulance rides
He "don't deserve it", the patient is right

Career
Serious
There are times when I miss the appeal

Long black cars driven close to the lawn
Straight legged slacks and the shine of the chauffer's garb
The lawyer with an eloquent tongue
He sways the verdict, the jury is numb

Career
Serious
There are times when I miss the appeal
Energy that pulls us toward it
To feel the total job
No economic success
To get the total job

Boys with Girlfriends - Meiko (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Boys with Girlfriends" by Meiko from Meiko

When I first met you I knew you were the one
'Til you took me home and I met her
She had your boxers on
She was listening to your song
And I thought right then that you had everything

But I knew she was jealous from the start
Yeah, I knew she was jealous from the start

'Cause I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends
Oh, I know better than that
I know better
You play the victim and I'll be the bad guy
I know better than that
I know better

We started hanging around after nine
I could've sworn that I was yours
You looked at me and said, "It's a little too late for bed"
We went to the hotel and talked about everything

But I knew she was jealous from the start
Yeah, I knew she was jealous from the start
'Cause I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends
Oh, I know better than that
I know better
You play the victim and I'll be the bad guy
I know better than that
I know better

What she did to us was tragic
And I have to do what's right
What we had was really magic
But I have to get what's mine
What's mine
I'll get what's mine and you'll get yours

'Cause I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends
Oh, I know better than that
I know better
You play the victim and I'll be the bad guy
I know better than that
I know better

I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends
Oh, I know better than that
I know better
You play the victim and I'll be the bad guy
I know better than that
I know better that that
I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends
Oh, I know better than that
I know better

Mistletoe - Jukebox the Ghost (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to the "Mistletoe" demo by Jukebox the Ghost
*These lyrics were transcribed and hold no guarantee for accuracy

Oh my mistletoe
Called me up on the phone
Tried her best to explain
To the hardest that she didn’t know
That though they misbehaved
She’d known it all along
No need to feel ashamed
We didn’t do nothing wrong
She said, “I wanted you to know
I believe in the end out of love
True love grows and if I’m to be alone
Then I’ll be alone
But don’t look at me like another lost soul”

Covers her hands with rings
20 little something precious things
Each one bare a heart she’d stole
From the years out on the road
She talked of (unknown lyric)
She planned her own rocky path
And that the past is past
Ain’t nothing you can do about that

She said, “I wanted you to know
I believe in the end out of love
True love grows and if I’m to be alone
Then I’ll be alone
But don’t look at me like another lost soul
You don’t look at me like another lost soul”
(unknown lyrics)
I’ve called to the people that knew me before I was grown

Oh my mistletoe
Called me up on the phone
Tried her best to explain
To the hardest that she didn’t know
That though they misbehaved
She’d known it all along
No need to feel ashamed
We didn’t do nothing wrong
She said, “I wanted you to know
I believe in the end out of love
True love grows and if I’m to be alone
Then I’ll be alone
But don’t look at me like another lost soul
‘Cause I believe in the end out of love
True love grows and if I’m to be alone
Then I’ll be alone
But don’t look at me like another lost soul
Yeah, if I’m to be alone
Then I’ll be alone
But don’t look at me like another lost soul”

My Body is a Cage - Sara Lov (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "My Body is a Cage" by Sara Lov from The Young Eyes

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

I'm standing on a stage
Of fear and self-doubt
It's a hollow play
But they'll clap anyway

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

You're standing next to me
My mind holds the key

I'm living in an age
That calls darkness light
Though my language is dead
Still the shapes fill my head

I'm living in an age
Whose name I don't know
Though the fear keeps me moving
Still my heart beats so slow

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

You're standing next to me
My mind holds the key
My body is a

My body is a cage
We take what we're given
Just because you've forgotten
That don't mean you're forgiven

I'm living in an age
That screams my name at night
But when I get to the doorway
There's no one in sight

My body is a cage that keeps me
From dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

You're standing next to me
My mind holds the key

Set my body free
Set my body free
Set my body free

Wrecking Ball - Mother Mother (Lyrics)

Below are the lyrics to "Wrecking Ball" by Mother Mother from O My

I made a wreck out of my hand
I put it through the wall
I made a fist and not a plan
call me a wreckless wrecking ball
I threw my plates against the wall
and give it all I got
I aim to break, not one but all
I'm just a big ol' wrecking ball

I am unruly in the stands
I am a rock on top of the sand
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I break it just because I can
Dah dah dah dah...

It takes a dedicated hand
to put it through the wall
You gotta wanna break the hearts
of all those pretty porcelain dolls
You gotta wanna be the drummer in the band
You gotta wanna be a battle ring ram
You gotta see the artistry in tearing the place apart with me, baby

I am unruly in the stands
I am a rock on top of the sand
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I break it just because I can
Lets break it
just because we can
Deface it
just because we can
Lets break it
Just because, just because, just because
just because

I am unruly in the stands
I am a rock on top of the sand
I am a fist amidst the hands
and I make a wreck out of my hand
I make a fist and not a plan
and I break it just because I can
because I can, because I can
because I can, because I can
because I can, because I can
because I can

September CD Release

Super Teens and Marshmallow Dreams

September takes a little turn from August with less funk and more rock. The compilation is dominated by artists that have flavors of the Black Keys, the Flaming Lips, Ben Kweller, Save Ferris, and Ani DiFranco... wait, that's actually her. This CD definitely gives full value to the dollar with all the songs averaging at about 4 minutes and leaving only a few minutes to spare to the disk.

The CD starts out with a rather unusual beginning song for ChipperDemon and then slips in and out of indie rock tracks and kind of lacks the build up that usually occurs at the beginning and instead goes from a constant middle ground beat pace to slowing down in the middle completely changing the feel till it returns again. The CD does run the risk of sounding a little monotonous with all of the indie rock tracks. The bonus tracks are the most fast paced songs and perhaps the best songs on the entire CD... too bad you can't vote for them.

Tracks As Follows:

1. Act, Wait, Activate - Holana (lyrics
A Swedish band self proclaimed as "sweeter than honey pie" on their myspace page, Holana, is definitely sweet. Their song Mr. Dancy Pants is probably their best track on the internet. Music blogger Absolute Noise best compared them to the Moldy Peaches to try and explain their simplistic style. Similar to Moldy Peaches, boy and girl duets, even if it's two boys, do have a sweet uniqueness to them that ChipperDemon's friend at OrangeCoat is rightfully growing a love for.

2. Mexico - Beat Radio (lyrics
The first of Beat Radio's appearances on the CD, Mexico, is a good introduction to the band's instrumental ability. The beginning of the song (deceptively reminiscent of the Counting Crows) brings it right to an image with a simple message, "This morning I woke up, I had a melody in mind. I felt like I should sing it but I wouldn't call it mine. Then I make you coffee, then I make you plans, then the song slips away like water in my hands." The song gives an overall warmth over the complexities of dreams and music.

3. Party's Over - Nicole Atkins & the Sea (lyrics
This Jersey native, Nicole Atkins, developed her sound working with one of ChipperDemon's favorite artists, Fiery Furnaces (Best of the Rest 07) and then producing albums with the Franz Ferdinand producer. The song has a very familiar pop sound. The heavy bass guitar providing the slow melody is paired with the faster paced lead guitar guiding the verses right where they need to be. It fits a successful song formula all the way through intro, verse, bridge and chorus.

4. World of Machines - Mock Orange (lyrics
The stronger of the two Mock Orange tracks, World of Machines, is the most reminiscent of the Flaming Lips with the music style and story telling approach especially by revolving around robotic vision. The electric guitar also adds this light funkiness between verses. "I used to be a little bit brighter in the morning until I got tired. That's how it started and now I'm here and I'm gone." Sometimes simple lyrics about robots are just nice.

5. The Geeks Were Right - The Faint (lyrics
While the Faint's new album would have fit quite nicely with last month's collection, it also provides the little bit of contrast that September experiences. This song, however, follows the World of Machines perfectly with "watch what the humans ruined with machines." The Faint proves their amazing lyric style with lines like, "I'm in a chainsaw choir." The song is a very typical Faint song informing all that the years of absence from the recording studio has not phased their music approach. The Faint, you have been missed.

6. Waiting for a Crisis - The Fourelles (lyrics
The Fourelles have a very typical girl indie rock band sound already making them a ChipperDemon favorite. The band is made up of two girls (one from Virginia the other from Massachusetts) and two guys (one from Australia and the other from Texas). Their lyrics and song style are very similar to Rachel Jacobs with embarrassingly true lyrics and simple guitar riffs. Then, the chorus is incredibly catchy, "I'm waiting for a crisis so I can show you how nice I can be" will stick in the head and not leave.

7. The Gentle Charm of the Soviette - The Henry Clay People (lyrics
One of the two Henry Clay People songs, The Gentle Charm of the Soviette, is a familiar indie beat with a voice similar to Bishop Allen (July 07 CD) and Ben Kweller. The song, however, with a message about a soviette is perhaps the most similar to songs by the Cold War Kids (July 07 and November 07 CDs). Overall, typical indie band that gets the formula right.

8. Lord - Sleepy Sun (lyics
Aside from having a band name that would be good inspiration for a ChipperDemon CD cover, Sleepy Sun is a blues/jam band band from California. Their new album, Embrace, is available to download completely free from their website, and is worth the extra click. Their blues and funk style is smooth and great wind down music. Now as for the song, it's the longest on the CD and shows it. The song sets up to be fantastic but drags just a little.

9. Come Save Us - The Warlocks (lyrics
Similar to Sleepy Sun in that Come Save Us has a fantastic start but ends up dissapointing just a little. The song isn't too long by any means, the chorus just repeats a few too many times. The seven piece unit that is The Warlocks comprises is obviously a family of talent and sure to make it somewhere, starting with a fairly well done website.

10. Extinction - The Muslims (lyrics)
The rawness of the this guitar heavy, vocal led song does have a nice simpleness to it that also brings the CD back to more of a rock base. Music reviewer Stereogum gives the band a thumbs up with stating them as a band to be on the lookout for. They just have a nice and simple way about them, song message and all.

11. Marathon Not a Sprint - Camera Obscura (lyrics
A female track, Marathon Not a Sprint, starts off with a harmonica heavy introduction into a pleasant lady voice. The song is lovely and simple, "who do I love the most?" The band, Camera Obscura, starting in 1996 is Scottish based with three albums under their belts.

12. Star Matter - Ani DiFranco (lyrics
Star Matter is a typical guitar, cello, and trumpet trio under Ani DiFranco's infamous voice. The song, as expected, is lyrically heavy but surprisingly very simple. It contrasts with a good deal of the songs on the CD with it's instrumental style. The song, of course, had to appear on a ChipperDemon CD out of respect for Ani's relentless years of achievement. "Love ain't far behind." Also, her entire new album, Red Letter Year, is fully listenable off of her label's website, Righteous Babe

13. Death - White Lies (lyrics
Between the song title and band name the track does not let up for a bright song and a repeated message of, "this fear has got a hold on me" doesn't really try dispel the assumption. The song, however, has this overall upbeat sound while the lyrics are a little conflicted pronouncing, "I live of the right side, I sleep on the left, that's why everything has got to be love or death." The music build up, though, makes one completely forget the message behind the lyrics and let the drum beat keep the excitement.

14. Golden - Bear Hands (lyrics
A now two year old band, Bear Hands, has obviously been working hard. The song has a great simple guitar riff over a steady and sweet drum beat. The lead singer's voice is typical for an indie band a little screamy but it flows so easily over the simple music. The lyrics are little random, "brown bunny the murder cereal" but the ending crescendo ties the whole song together just before it returns to the simple sound and finishes.

15. January - The Swear (lyrics
The Swear is a very Save Ferris girl indie rock band. They've got the catchy chorus, even if it is, "I don't believe in suicide." The band, however, is very emo looking based on their banner photo of the website, which explains the chorus line.

16. Bandage on the Blood Clot - The Henry Clay People (lyrics
A little slower than their previous song on the compilation, Bandage on the Blood Clot, continues the indie sound of the CD. Their drum build up is nice to tap to against a good hard surface right up until it lets go and the head bobs right into it. It is probably the most overkill song of the indie sound on the CD though.

17. Another Loveless Anthem - Beat Radio (lyrics
The last Beat Radio song on the CD, Another Loveless Anthem, is a great long yet not song. It has a simple and sweet sound that is quite common among this entire CD. The instrumental complexity of it carries it through and captivates interest. The lyrics as well keep attention, "I'm another loveless anthem playing on your top 40 station."

18. Supergang - Mock Orange (lyrics)
Because ChipperDemon can't finish a compilation on a slow note, again, Mock Orange finishes the CD up with a nice steady head bobbing track. "It's a miracle, musical, lyrical... we've got time to swim forever." They again have a bit of Flaming Lips sound and somehow maintain energy while keeping a steady pace. A good finish to a good CD compilation.

Bonus Tracks
Trunk Fulla Amps - Self
Super Freak - Fetchin' Bones

ChipperDemon would also like to apologize for not all of the songs being available at Amazon for previewing.
